Full house at manufacturing productivity and LEAN principles workshop, energises local Dudley Borough businesses

Published: 30 October 2024

The Business Growth West Midlands in Dudley team recently hosted a bustling manufacturing productivity and LEAN principles workshop, which saw a full house with representatives from an array of local companies in the Dudley Borough area. It was also a great opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces such as Adam Holmes from Cope Technology Limited, Andrew Read from Midland Ventilation Products, and Lesley Quinn from EHSQ Consultancy Ltd.

The workshop provided an in-depth look at LEAN manufacturing principles and techniques, aimed at optimising processes, eliminating waste, and boosting efficiency. Under the expert guidance of Adrian Waters, Manufacturing Growth Manager at Oxford Innovation Advice.

Paul Ferris, Operations Director at Midtherm Engineering, enriched the experience by offering a tour of their manufacturing facility. He shared insights into Midtherm’s journey with LEAN principles and the tangible benefits they've observed. This real-world example brought to life the theory discussed and showcased the practical application of LEAN strategies in a local business setting.

Key takeaways from the session highlighted the importance of adding value and the critical role of engaging employees to shift the cultural paradigm towards more efficient practices.

Donna Watkins, Business Growth Adviser for the BGWM in Dudley Programme, encapsulated the spirit of the workshop with a poignant reminder: "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got!"

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mark Jones, Paul A. Ferris, and the Midtherm team, along with Donna Watkins, Catherine Bray, and Adrian Waters for providing such a comprehensive and engaging look into LEAN manufacturing.

Lesley Quinn from EHSQ Consultancy Limited expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you...for providing such an interesting insight into LEAN manufacturing.”

This workshop not only educated but also inspired local businesses to consider how they can implement LEAN principles to improve their operations and foster a culture of continuous improvement. If you're looking to enhance your business processes, consider how LEAN can make a significant impact.
