Long-established Henley Engineers moves into new markets
Published: 31 March 2025
Henley Engineers, a long-established precision fabrication and machining business in Henley-in-Arden, is taking steps to expand into new and emerging markets after joining the Supply Chain Transition (SCT) programme.
Founded in 1942 and now run by the fourth generation of the same family, Henley Engineers has built a strong reputation for welding, fabrication and laser cutting, with much of its work focused on the automotive sector. However, faced with the challenges of fluctuating demand in that industry, the company recognised the need to diversify and build resilience.
Why they joined the programme
Senior Business Development Manager, Mike Beirns, explained: “The ambition is to grow the business, and to do that we need to make changes here and there. It is a LEAN-based change, but necessary to ensure a stable business.”
By enrolling in the SCT programme, Henley Engineers gained access to expert guidance on diversification opportunities in Very Light Rail (VLR) and Light Electric Vehicles (LEV). The business also benefited from one-to-one support, a tailored roadmap for diversification, and the chance to meet potential buyers and collaborators.
What they learned
“The programme has been beneficial for us as a company,” said Mike. “It gave us the information we needed to move forward in the early stages of diversification. Attending the Meet the Buyer event at BCIMO was especially useful—we reconnected with clients, explained our growth plans and explored new opportunities.”
By engaging with the programme, Henley Engineers gained new insights into where they could fit into the VLR and LEV sectors.
Results and future plans
Since joining, the company has opened discussions with a leading international autonomous vehicle manufacturer about collaborating in the LEV market. Henley Engineers also continues to make valuable connections through the SCT portal, building visibility in these emerging industries.
Mike added: “The only thing this programme cost us was time, and it was certainly worthwhile. I would absolutely recommend it to other businesses looking to expand into new markets. If you are serious about transitioning, this programme gives you the tools and confidence to make the right decisions.”
