Manor Abbey Foods Ltd, a Cradley Heath-based food service company, has achieved significant growth thanks to a grant and tailored support from Business Growth West Midlands in Sandwell.
The company supplies quality food to schools, colleges, academies and catering establishments across the borough. While demand for their service was strong, limited frozen storage meant they couldn’t purchase stock in bulk or take on more business, a frustrating barrier that was holding back their plans to expand.

With the guidance of Helen Peach, Business Development Coordinator, Manor Abbey Foods successfully applied for a grant to tackle the issue. The funding enabled the business to invest in a large walk-in freezer, a pallet truck to move stock more efficiently, and a part-time delivery driver. These improvements gave the team the tools and flexibility they needed to grow.
Impact on growth
The upgrades have already made a tangible difference. The business can now buy in larger quantities at better prices, fulfil more deliveries, and reach new customers. They’ve grown by an estimated 30% and are being recommended by satisfied clients. A new part-time job has also been created directly as a result of the support.
Managing Director Paul Wrighton said:
“Without the brilliant help from Helen we would not have been able to expand our business and employ more staff. We would not have the growth in the business and all the new customers that we have been able to secure without the grant.”
Looking ahead, Manor Abbey Foods plans to continue expanding, increasing storage space further, taking on more clients, and creating more local job opportunities.
