Exciting NEW growth programme for Dudley borough businesses

Published: 10 January 2024

More than 600 businesses based in the Dudley Borough are set to receive business support and advice from an expert delivery team of local business growth experts.

The Business Growth West Midlands (BGWM) in Dudley Programme will not only help SME businesses within the area to thrive, innovate and grow. It will also positively impact Dudley’s economy.

The programme is delivered by Oxford Innovation Advice and funded as part of the wider West Midlands Combined Authority’s £42 million investment from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, with the objective to build pride in place and increase life chances and opportunities.

As part of the programme each business will receive free information, bespoke business diagnostic, brokerage, and an account management service. The scheme will also offer a series of workshops that are each themed around five different key areas including: Building Business Resilience, Digital Essentials, Unleash the Power of Digital Marketing, Innovate to Grow and Charting Your Business' Path to Success.

Councillor Paul Bradley, deputy leader and cabinet member for communities and economic delivery, said:

“As part of Business Growth West Midlands in Dudley, Dudley Council has developed an innovative new delivery model, working with Oxford Innovation Advice to enable more than 600 established Dudley SME businesses to benefit from the expertise of a local team of Business Growth Advisors.

“Businesses will be able to access an initial diagnostic, develop bespoke business growth action plans and receive tailored support to access innovation and funding opportunities.”

The BGWM in Dudley scheme will function as the pivotal point for all Dudley Borough SMEs who wish to obtain access to the wider business support landscape. Businesses will be able to gain the ‘right’ support, advice, and referrals to unlock grant opportunities, and access to specialist support such as net zero, start-up assistance and access to investment readiness.

Jane Galsworthy, Managing Director of Oxford Innovation Advice said: “We are delighted to have won this contract so we can expand on the support we have delivered to businesses and deliver further economic prosperity across Dudley.

“In delivering the previous Manufacturing Growth Programme, we were able to support the creation of more than 750 new roles within manufacturing businesses across the Black Country region. It is now more important than ever that businesses of all sectors have access to a service that unlocks the support available through Business Growth West Midlands to continue building their resilience and underpin growth.”
